Mumbai Wildlife Circle is created in the year 1993. It consists of 14 Protected Areas (2 National Park and 12 Sanctuaries) of Western Maharashtra divided in four Wildlife Divisions.

Most of them lie in southern part of western Ghat. Government of Maharashtra recently vide its Notification No. WLP-1008/C-232/F-1,dt.5-1-2010 declared areas of Koyna Wildlife sanctuary and Chandoli National Park, as Sayadri Tiger Reserve.
